Behind The Lens
Location
This image is overlooking Lake Simcoe in Ontario. It's a lovely area local to me.Time
Deanna called me up as I was driving home from work in the mid afternoon; she was in the mood to shoot something. I grabbed my camera, picked her up, and drove out to the lake. We wandered for a while shooting in a variety of locations.Lighting
The late afternoon sun is behind the hazy clouds and just behind the model, giving that lovely glow to her hairEquipment
Shot on a Canon 7D ii, with a Sigma 18-250.Inspiration
As we got to the top of the hill, the wind picked up and gave that great movement to her hair.Editing
This image has very little post processing. There's a gradient filter on the sky to bring out some cloud details, and a targeted bump in exposure on her face.In my camera bag
I pack differently for every shoot - I'm a planner. The things that are always with my are my 7D ii body, my general purpose zoom lens, and a nifty fifty. I almost always carry a speedlight as well.Feedback
Keep an eye on your surroundings and what the light is doing. The better vantage point for this shot was further to the left, but that put her face in full darkness and would have totally changed the feel of the shot.
