This calf got tired from the days swim, being out by the gulf stream, mom helps her calf take a breath while it rests. Spotted dolphins are unique in that the juveniles are born without any spots, at about 3 years of age they will begin to get their spots and they will get more prominent as they get older. Unlike humans, who breath on instinct, dolphins have to consciously take a breath. When calves get tired from a long days swim, mom is more than willing to help her babe stay close to the surface.
