This photo was taken at Joshua Tree National Park, CaliforniaTime
This is one my most awaited and therefore favorite shots. I had traveled to LA for work when I drove all the way to Joshua Tree National Park, met a friend at around midnight and tried exploring for a different composition which did not seem good. I knew that we would get the Milky Way Arch just above the Arch Rock after 2AM or so. Finally reached the spot in time just to find a huge group of photographers occupying the best spots. Luckily, got one spot and took this series of photos at 2:40 AM on May 22nd 2017.Lighting
The moon had already set and it was a starry night. Had to use LED panels to lightup the rock.Equipment
This photograph was shot by Canon 7d Markii, Rokinon 14mm 2.8 lens. Tripod - Vanguard - 263AT Pro. Two LED Panels. One lighting up the rock from the front and one from behind.Inspiration
The Arch Rock has been in my mind to position the Milky Way just above it. I had tried once before, but I was too late in the season to try it. This was my second attempt. Being a Nightscape photographer, I love photographing the Milky Way along with the iconic structures. Milky Way Photographs can be clicked only in remote places, far away from city lights and civilization. My fascination to click Milky Way photographs is to show my viewers the beauty which the night sky holds and to realize the importance to preserve the same.Editing

Most important is to do the research and plan properly. Research should include the moonset time, time at which Milky Way would showup & it's position. Study the landscape and time of operations of the targeted park or seek permission if a private property. It's important to visit the place in day light to get to know the exact place you want to shoot at night. Night photography comes with few big risks. There is always a risk of people getting hurt due to accidental fall or walking into thorns. I have never heard of robbing cases, though it cannot be eliminated as a risk. There's risk of animals and deadly reptiles like rattle snakes. One time, I was planning to shoot Milkyway in a remote place inside a National Park. When I called the NPS for information, they said there are no major risks. However, when I asked for which animals to expect at night ... they said nothing other than 'Rattle Snake'.. ha ha ha !!
