Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the National Zoo down in Washington DC.

Time

It was not quite mid day. I like to go early before noon. Though the exhibit was inside with dim lighting except for the lights in the tank.

Lighting

The tanks had the these warm lights so that the exhibit stays warm for the reptiles. The lighting was great, except I had some trouble with the glare of the glass.

Equipment

I used a standard kit lens on my Nikon D3300. No flash was used.

Inspiration

I love animals. They’re always my best model. Plus this snake was curious and in front. I had to take advantage of that.

Editing

I did. I lightened the photo a tad and upped the color just to make him pop as I thought he did in person.

In my camera bag

I normally keep my kit lens and wide set lens with my D3300. I keep an extra battery and SD card. Plus my Canon AE-1 in case I see something I want to capture on film.

Feedback

You never know what you’ll with animals. I love being surprised with what angles and how close I can get with them. I love to watch patiently and snap some good moments.
