This is "Slippy", a really tiny baby snail I came across while photographing wild flowers in the fields. I managed to measure its diameter of only 4 millimeters, more or less one fifth of an inch, with the aid of a magnifying glass. Its shell is still so thin, that one can see its insides. Slippy is neither used to audiences, however appreciative, nor does he like to be out in the open; it must be his naturally inborn sense of preservation, resulting in his insistent moving undercover. As there was no way of making him stay on top of the flower for the length of getting a more or less decent shot and after twisting and turning to get one from under the flower that would have made a professional contortionist pale with envy, I resolved the problem by simply turning the photograph upside down. I hope my little subterfuge will be forgiven.
