Location
This photo was taken at the beautiful Motukiekie Beach on the West Coast of New Zealand.Time
This was taken at sunset, the sunsets on the West Coast are breath taking so I had been out on the beach shooting when I happened upon this scene.Lighting
The lighting was a little challenging as I was shooting with no flash or tripod, so I had to increase the iso for this. The stormy sky and setting sun did make though for the most amazing light.Equipment
The only gear I used was my Canon 5 D Mk III and a 16-35 mm lens.Inspiration
My inspiration for this shot was just the whole surreal scene, the sun was setting, the sky was quite stormy looking with the most incredible clouds, the sea was very foamy and here are these two gorgeous dogs having a fantastic time swimming around and chasing the foam bubbles. It was the most amazing scene.Editing
Minimal post processing was done on this shot, as it was a raw file I only had to adjust highlights and shadows. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 5D Mk IV and a spare Canon 5D Mk III, my go to lens which is my 100-400 L IS II and my 24-70. I do carry my 16-35mm but these days I find myself just using the 100-400 most of the time as Im 99% of the time shooting wildlife.Feedback
When there are animals in the photo, you have to constantly be ready to capture that special moment, the one moment that everything just seems to fit together. This particular shot I just loved how both dogs were busy doing their own thing but I thought it really worked for a strong photo. And of course having an amazing backdrop like this was just the icing on the cake!!
