Location
I took this photo one evening about 4 years or so ago in a very small, cramped apartment. I am a self-taught photographer, and I was experimenting again with ISO settings, aperture settings and low-light conditions (which this apartment was good for.)Time
If I remember correctly, it was well after the sun had gone down for the day, and I was using my vintage desk lamp for jotting down the notes that are written on the paper. I was listening to Jimi Hendrix "If 6 was 9," and I have always liked the part of the song where he just does a bit of stream of consciousness in his lyrics. So, I wrote it down. I still have the lamp. And the pen.Lighting
Honestly, I didn't do anything special with the lighting. The lamp is a single bulb focused by a fluted glass shade which creates great pools of light and dark. I used only the light from the lamp and no other ambient lighting which resulted in the light pooling in the front of the photo, and the shadow at the rear.Equipment
A Nikon D80, no tripod, no flash, I believe the lens is a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4.Inspiration
It struck me as an interesting and unusual grouping of items for a still life. The old fashioned fountain pen resting on the pad of paper, and it's relationship to the very modern cell phone SIM number noted on the paper. A quote from a song that is about 4 years older than I am. The dark rimmed glasses. It all had a sort of "noir" feel to it.Editing
I used the basic edit functions in Lightroom Classic, and then decided to see what adding the monochrome filter would do. This is the result. There wasn't much editing done to this photo. In my camera bag
I always have my camera, a Nikon D80, my 50mm lens, my spare batteries and SD cards.Feedback
