Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my back garden near Watford. The Allium buds were just starting to open and I thought they would stand out against a black background.

Time

The image was taken in the afternoon on a bright day.

Lighting

As I wanted to create the black background I used a ring flash to light the bud.

Equipment

The camera was handheld. I used my trusty Canon 7D with a sigma 105mm macro lens fitted with the ring flash.

Inspiration

I love macro photograph anyd try to do as much as I can. I saw the Allium buds and knew the photo I wanted to capture.

Editing

The only post processing was to enhance the colours slightly and darken the background slightly to create the effect I was after.

In my camera bag

I normally carry my 7D and 3 lenses with me. A105mm telephoto, a prime 50mm and a 10-22mm wide angle.

Feedback

I would say if you want to do macro photography just experiment and you’ll find the method that’s suits you best.
