Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at Herrings Green Farm Falconry Centre, Wilstead, Bedfordshire. A friend and myself were on a two day Bird of Prey Experience where you can handle and fly tge birds.

Time

The photo was taken at about 11.30am while we were handling some of the birds.

Lighting

I used the natural light as it was a bright, clear sunny day. The only thing i did was to make sure i had the sun behind me. Other than that there was no special equipment used to get the correct light.

Equipment

The camera i used was a Sony DSC - H400. Aperture was f/5 ISO was 80 Shutter was 1/ 320 Focal length 33000/1000 The shot was taken hand held so no other equipment was used.

Inspiration

The opportunity to get up close to birds of prey for me is not possible in the wild as my knowledge of cameras and settings is a bit beyond me and i don't have the equipment to do so. As we were handling the birds i got the opportunity to get up close and personal to them. The Kestral was being held by my friend and it looked so beautiful that i just had to get a close up.

Editing

The only post processing i did was to balance the light, colour and sharpness of the photo which was minimal. The photo you see is just as i took it with those minimal tweeks.

In my camera bag

Gosh, what do i have in my bag. I have the following, Tripod Mono pod Lense hood Extra battery packs Lense cleaning cloth and brush Nikon H900 DLS camera x83 zoom. Sony DSC -H400 camera Lense filters for the Sony camera Macro lense for the Sony camera Lithium batteries for the Sony camera.

Feedback

As a hobbyist photographer who has never used anything but Auto mode on my cameras i don't think i can give much advice but to say, don't get hung up on settings if you are not comfortable doing so. Auto mode is not a bad thing to use. I have never come away from Auto mode and i don't think i do too badly on it. Just go out and take photos that you want to take, what makes you happy etc. Enjoy taking your photos and have fun doing so.
