Location
This photo was taken on the beach of Tamarindo, in Costa Rica, during an awesome and unexpected sunset.Time
I remember it was only 6 pm. Being close to the equator the sunset in Costa Rica lasts very little. But it manages to be breathtaking.Lighting
I wanted to make a photograph that captured all the beauty that my eyes were seeing in order to share it with the world. I waited for the sun to set because I wanted a more intimate and enveloping light that created mystery and suspension and intrigued the observer.Equipment
This was shot with an old CANON 550D, lens 18-35mm, with a small travel tripod.Inspiration
I waited many days to find a fog-free sky and basic clouds covering the horizon. My patience was rewarded when one day the sky suddenly caught on fire. It was then that I decided to capture that moment by inserting myself in the composition. Usually I would not have done it, but I also wanted to be there in such an unrepeatable moment. I felt that if I left the composition without a human figure it would lose value. Having someone who looks hopelessly in love the horizon I believe enhances it even more.Editing
I honestly didn't go through a complex post production process. I only slightly contrasted the colors. I wanted the photo to be as faithful as possible to the wonder created by nature itself. In my camera bag
I use different cameras for different ideas. When I travel I now use Lumix Panasonic GH5 with lens 12-60mm f2.8, lens 50mm f1.8 canon, tamron 70-300mm f4, sigma 18-35mm f 1.8. I use viltrox or metabones speedboster adaptor. I bring also gorillapod and tripod.Feedback
In tropical countries the weather changes constantly. You never know what to expect so you always have to be ready to shoot. I recommend traveling with the lightest but complete kit possible and bringing ND filters for landscape photography with you. I also recommend knowing how to be patient when luck doesn't seem to be on our side. It will be then that nature will manifest itself in its splendor: be ready!
