This riverfront site has been through numerous transformations over the centuries. It began as three bustling wharves—where Peekskill-made products began their journey to outlying markets, and people arrived and departed on lavishly decorated steamboats. Later, space between the docks was filled in to accommodate expanding industry. Today, following an extensive cleanup, the land connects people to the city’s maritime past while offering spectacular views of Peekskill Bay (and maybe a bald eagle). Recognizing its potential as a catalyst for riverfront revitalization, Scenic Hudson purchased the property in 1998. The city funded its cleanup and construction of amenities, including a shoreline boardwalk, a pedestrian footbridge leading to adjacent Riverfront Green Park, docks for kayaks and small watercraft, a gazebo and trellis, and trails for jogging, biking, walking and other outdoor activities. A link in Westchester County’s 51-mile RiverWalk, the park is close to Peekskill’s Metro-North station as well its vibrant waterfront district featuring restaurants, pubs and a host of recreational activities and water sports.The park is maintained by the City of Peekskill.
