I grew up hearing and when I was 19, I was exposed to loud noises which damaged my hearing (job not disclosed, sorry).
Four years later, I started college and my hearing loss was moderately severe - severe. In college, I decided to learn ASL (American Sign Language) and never imagined how vast a world of communication would open up! I immediately embraced ASL! In college, I studied in the ASL & Deaf Studies Interpreters Course for 3.5yrs and continued to sign for years after (personal, not for employment as an interpreter). My signing friends later moved, etc. and my signing declined, as I am not in the local Deaf Community.
These days, my signing is rusty & my signs are old, but sign is still my preferred language when available :)
Take care! :)
