Behind The Lens
Location
I took this at Pembroke bay, Guernsey. There’s a series of rocks around the area, people call this rock “Frog rock” which I later came to learn.Time
I actually took this image at sunrise.Lighting
I wanted to keep this image around the theme of sunrise. I composited it trying out new ideas in the process and I liked the final result.Equipment
I used a manfrotto tripod and a canon 5d mark 3 with a 17-40mm L lens (which I still use to this day)Inspiration
This was taken before I was first introduced to landscape filters. I have always had a keen interest in landscape photography, this beach is popular with tourists with some of the best sand you will find anywhere. It was a good starting point for this kind of phototherapy in the morning!Editing
I captured this image in RAW and tried to keep everything as flat as possible. Trying to take in the entire dynamic range of the scene, once imported to lightroom I made basic adjustments to colour and exposure. Once I was happy with the image I then imported into photoshop where I created the sun rise from scratch and used various blending modes to help it sit in the pictureIn my camera bag
I always have my Canon EOS-R in my bag along with my 5D mark 3, I also have my 16-35mm L lens with my trusty 17-40mm L lens. Each lens has its own use.Feedback
If your living in an island it can be very tempting to just go out to all the places in one go and capture as much scenery as possible, my approach is to just choose a place you wish to visit, study the characteristics of the destination and place elements in your shot accordingly. Always set out around an hour and a half before your desired time so then you have enough time to explore, set up and enjoy the shoot. Always bring music with you, it definitely helps
