Behind The Lens

Location

This was captured on a cold morning when sun was just warming up the courtyard of a building where I once used to work.

Time

I was sipping my green tea and talking to a colleague on some important task lined up for the upcoming day, when this opportunity was offered to me by Mr. Mantis-aurus. I could see from side of my eye an object swinging in random periodic motion. When I looked in that direction, i could feel the Mantis looking at me asking me - Am I bothering you sir? I said in my mind - do you mind posing for me? It seemed the mantis was well versed with my language and waited till i returned back with m camera. Fortunately by that time the sun was casting shadow on the wall on which mantis was walking. And than this magic happened.

Lighting

The natural day light (morning sun) has played a very important role in making the image what it is seen as. the dramatic shadow would not have been possible without the sunlight.

Equipment

Canon 60 D and canon telephoto lens 70-200 F4.0. No tripod, no flash and no timer. This image is selected from a set of multiple images i took.

Inspiration

Isn't the image and the heading self explanatory?

Editing

Nopes. Prefer to always portray the picture in its original format.

In my camera bag

Same kit of canon 60 D, canon 50mm, f1.8. canon 70-200 USM, f4.0 and an extra battery.

Feedback

Well, the only thing which I realized that if its windy, try to capture multiple shots when you are clicking light weight bugs. Also getting the light to fall on the surface of the wall / surface on which shadow is casted is the key to a good capture. Good luck shooting....!
