A snipe perches on a tall fence post. I love these birds and was surprised to see this one in the open as much as this as they're usually secretive animals that take cover in-between the rushes and grasses of wet flushes and meadows. This one is probably looking for a mate showing that sexual selection can work in direct opposition to natural selection. Being this exposed makes the bird vulnerable to predators such as merlin and peregrines but the urge to breed makes them foolhardy and rash.
