Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in the Alabama Hills just outside Lonepine CA. This is BLM land that is very unique in the rock formations, a beautiful place that has been used for the setting of many a movie.

Time

I took this image about 30 minutes after sunrise.

Lighting

You get nice clouds there certain times of the year, the morning light coming through the clouds spilling onto this beautiful place is magical/

Equipment

This was taken with a Sony a6000 with the 18-105 lens Somy makes. The camera was mounted on a carbon fiber Velbon Tripod.

Inspiration

It was my disire to create an image that expressed the beauty and feeling of mystery this place conveys.

Editing

This was a bracketed image of three images process in Aurora HDR.

In my camera bag

I now mostly carry a Sony a6500, 18-135mm lens by Sony, Sony 10-18mm lens, Sigma 30mm f1.4, Sony 85mm f1.8. and a godox flash. This leaves me prepared for just about any type of photography I usually want to do.

Feedback

Go the day before and scout out your shot. Taking into consideration where the Sun will be rising the next morning. Get to your spot about 30 minutes before Sunrise shoot a lot of images. Learn to use software to inhance your images. Ansel Adams post processed his images in the darkroom, if it was good enough for him it is good enough for me.
