Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture after an ice storm in Elka Park, New York in the eastern Catskill Mountains.

Time

This shot was taken at around 5pm on an overcast winters day.

Lighting

The light was really filtered because of the cloud cover, which gave a sort of eerie feel to walking in the woods.

Equipment

I used my first camera, a Canon 20d with a 28-200mm zoom lens.

Inspiration

I was just walking around in the woods and looking for opportunities for photos. These long stalk thistles caught my eye with the misty forest in the background.

Editing

not really, a bit of lighting adjustment and saturation.

In my camera bag

In my bag I currently carry my Canon 40d camera with 2 lenses: the 28-200mm which I used to take this shot, and a 70-300mm canon L series usm lens. I also pack my binoculars as birds are my main subjects and a identification guide to the birds of Paraguay where I currently live and work.

Feedback

just look for opportunities and take them when they come to remember for later. This shot took no planning, nor skill, as I just got my camera a few days earlier and was walking around doing point and shoot style photography. Add in a beautiful ice storm and you are all set!
