Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Island Springs near Hagerman Idaho. I am an amateur photographer and just started photography as a hobby in 2015. After taking two online photography classes I was hooked. I found a way to constantly learn, use both sides of my brain at the same time, see life from different angles and a freeze a moment in time.

Time

I took this photo at around 3pm. The sky was complete overcast and there was no wind. I was on the opposite side of the river while standing on a dock. Part of the dock was under water as the river was very high. I had to make one leg of my tripod shorter than the other two due to the flooding.

Lighting

I did not use any lighting except what Mother Nature offered.

Equipment

I used my tripod, my Canon 70D and my Sigma 150-600 lens. I forgot my lens hood at home. :)

Inspiration

I was inspired by the story of the woman who started this dairy farm in the 1800's. I was also amazed by the natural springs that run behind the farm land. The view from this side of the river was deceiving. It appears that the spring is directly behind the barn... but there's a whole farm separating the two.

Editing

The only post processing was to adjust the exposure, blacks and whites in camera RAW. I need a class in post processing. :)

In my camera bag

I usually carry my wide angle lens and a telephoto lens, my tripod and my lens hoods. I just bought my first filter.. a new learning experience.

Feedback

I love finding out about places from native residents. They know the best places to take photos and the history behind each place which is fascinating. It's not always possible to do a sunrise or sunset photo but Mother Nature can be very helpful. Bottom line, just enjoy everything you freeze!
