Patriot's Point, Mount Pleasant, SC. Stern shot of the USS LAFFEY (DD-724), an Allen B. Sumner class Destroyer. This one got the crap kicked out of it, a LOT, and kept getting back up. My father served on the John W. Thomason (DD-760), and the Laffey is the only Sumner class left afloat in the U.S. My brothers and the grandkids (most of them) went down with Dad to tour the Laffey. It was amazing to see him "back in his element." We got a unique tour of the Engineering section, which was very similar to the Thomason, where he was the Chief. Even the "tour guide" we got from Patriot's Point was amazed.
