Location
This photo was taken while traveling on Seward Hwy Anchorage, once of the most scenic drives you will ever experience. This highway takes you north to Denali, on the way you see vistas of water and glaciers.Time
As I continued on the drive the single thought "this can't get any better" entered my mind and as I rounded ever turn that thought continued to enter. I shot this late on a summer afternoon using a Sony A300 at F13 1/200 of a second.Lighting
An important note about shooting landscapes in Anchorage during the summer months, sunrise occurs around 4:30am and sunset takes place around 11:30pm! When this shot was taken at approximately 4:30pm the sun was high over head.Equipment
I used a Sony A300 with a wide angle zoom. This was taken at a focal length of 55mm, using F13 at 1/200 of a second.Inspiration
Looking at the beautiful vistas I loved this particular shot because it's has all the elements; trees, water, and mountains. After taking the photo I decided to take a short break and enjoy the view that mother nature provided.Editing
Some basic processing was applied to enhance the highlights of the mountain snow and create a silhouette of the trees at the base of the mountain while keeping the detail of the foliage in the forefront of the photo. In my camera bag
Since taking this shot I've upgraded my equipment to include a Canon EOS 90D with an 18-135 zoom. I've also added a Pentax 645D medium format digital. Since most of my attention is towards landscape and urban landscape photography, these two cameras fit my needs very well. I always keep a Canon EOS M5 with me in the front seat during road trips. This mirrorless compact digital has full functionality and is great for jumping out a shooting something in the moment.Feedback
I've visited the Anchorage area several times and never get bored with the people or amazing vistas that are available. As long as the days are in the summer (19 to 20 hours of sunlight) days are equally short in the winter (5 hours of daylight) so plan your trips accordingly.
