Behind The Lens

Location

This “family” photo was taken at Elephant Nature Park, an elephant sanctuary for tourist rescued elephants in Northern Thailand.

Time

The photo was taken in mid to late afternoon. The sun would have been lowering behind the valley hills so making it cooler to sit and watch the elephants at play.

Lighting

This was October so lighting is what it is in Thailand. As a novice, I don’t carry extra lighting equipment for random shots such as these.

Equipment

Strangely enough this photo was taken on my FinePix XP70. Its my go to camera when I know I will be taking near or underwater shots. Previous to this photo I’d been down riverside with another age range of elephants. Young, adolescent and aged. One can get mighty wet as can ones camera! So only the FinePix would do.

Inspiration

My sheer love of elephants and seeing two rescued herd mamas and their babies together, was too good an opportunity to miss.

Editing

Not a thing. Just pointed my little camera and hoped for the best.

In my camera bag

Mini tripod. Tripod. Lens cloths. Countless SD cards. Filters. The two other cameras I carry are bridge cameras and so I don’t have to carry extra lens.

Feedback

Just get yourself to an ethical elephant sanctuary or better still try see the wild elephants of Thailand. The photo opportunities are endless.
