Playing around with freelensing for the first time - it's super fun to do, but takes a lot of practice to get the focus just right!

The last time my parents went to India, they brought back with them antiques from our old house in Varanasi, including some things that belonged to my Didima (grandmother). I have been meaning to photograph everything - beautiful brass trays, lamps, silver containers, and jewelry, and finally got around to starting it. The powder container and tray that you see here belonged to my grandma, and they're both made from old silver. They're not smooth and shiny because they are so old, but they have a unique otherworldly beauty to them, and for me remind me of my childhood in India with my grandparents. When we opened up the powder container, it still smelled of refreshing talc - my grandma's favorite. For a second, I was home again.
