Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken from a small garden near the Turning Torso skyscraper in Malmö, Sweden. It’s close to the North Sea and a small bathhouse which is out on a walkway into the sea. Also there is a castle nearby, and many sailboats. Don’t forget the lighthouse and cute little bridge as well!

Time

I took the shot quite early in the morning on a late fall day, after taking a bus from Berlin to Copenhagen, then the train to Malmö. Quite the trip so far, but well worth the beautiful scenery.

Lighting

It was a beautiful day with light clouds, very brisk yet not an excessive amount of wind. The sun provided apple light at that point.

Equipment

I honestly laid on the ground with my trusty Nokia Lumia 1020 with its massive bulge of a camera on the back. May have just been a simple phone, but it did take great shots!

Inspiration

I had to frame the building, and honestly given it’s the only skyscraper nearby it was easy to avoid any significant obstructions. The wooden walkway in the nearby garden provided the perfect place for a shot like this.

Editing

Honestly I believe I primarily just cropped the image, at the time I hadn’t been doing too much image processing.

In my camera bag

At the time I was doing a single day trip and planned on two countries. Only had the phone, spare batteries, and some snacks. Perfect simple day.

Feedback

Just be open to get in the ground low and dirty. Don’t be afraid of the out of the ordinary situations needed to get a shot others won’t get down to .
