Location
This shot was taken from parents driveway out in a suburb in the greater St Louis MO metro area. Its a fairly forested area and lots of things like this guy can be found at certain times of the year.Time
This was late afternoon or early evening.Lighting
This was a real spur of the moment shot. The only light I had available was the sun. If I recall correctly, it was slightly cloudy but not enough to super disperse the light.Equipment
As I mentioned this was a spur of the moment "oh look there's a giant grasshopper!" shot. I had my Nikon D750 with a Nikkor 40mm macro.Inspiration
It was a target of opportunity. It was a giant grasshopper chilling on the concrete and he seemed content to just hang out and let me snap a few shots.Editing
This shot I did a bit of tweaking to the color to make his green pop out a tad more. Nothing super heavy since I wanted to maintain the natural look and not make him look like he was glowing green. In my camera bag
These days I carry a Nikon D750 and typically 2 lens, my Nikkor 24-70mm and 200-500mm. I've found for the vast majority of the kind of shooting I do, these two will cover my needs. I also occasionally augment with a Nikkor 85mm, 40mm macro, and 50mm. I also carry a Nikon SB-700 flash and flash commander. A mini Manfrotto tripod. And an assortment of things like cleaning equipment, gaff tape, a Gerber multi-tool, surefire flashlight, memory cards, and extra batteries. I typically pack it all in a GoRuck GR1 Shooter bag or a North Face Recon backpack.Feedback
Always keep your eyes open. You never know when something interesting is going to be right in front of your face.
