Behind The Lens

Location

This was a picture done by chance one winter when she was nearly 10 years old. She loved her sandbox where to enjoy sun in her personal park with her sister Belka. I was training on doing macros with my first digital camera and she was the "victim" of my experiments, as she enjoyed the attention she received.

Time

It was taken by midday, the sun was high and the place was nearly 40º Celsius. Hot enough for a summer but it was winter!

Lighting

Despite it was a freezing day outside, sun was shining through translucent crystal, that's why light is clear and uniform, but soft. Next day was snowing!

Equipment

I made the picture with my first camera, it had 2 megapixels, nothing else, I just placed camera at ground level, and so I did, and tried to get the clearest close up I could with my own pulse.

Inspiration

I wanted to make a portait of her, as by that time, she had recovered of a health problem that had affected her growing. I was afraid she could get ill again and tried to save her cuteness forever!

Editing

No, it's a raw image! I didn't found anything to do but sharing it!

In my camera bag

Now I manage with my phone and tablet, but when I really go on picture safari through town, take my old 2 megapixel camera and a 12 megapixel new one (both new), I love my old camera, because can do great shoots despite the small amount of pixels, compared to latest technology!

Feedback

When talking about reptiles, I love to shoot them the most natural they are, not trying to modify light or molesting them. Strelka was a homey turtle, but loved long strolls, and of course, you have to move slower than them, so they don't change position!
