Behind The Lens

Location

The Picture was taken in Curacao at special place where the local reef drops off in 4000 feet of water. water depth was changing from 50 feet to much deeper very fast! iv'e been an advanced scuba diver and under water photographer for about 20 years.

Time

its was about 75 degree water in the deeper end and 80 degrees on surface. This was one of those open water dives where you sorta have to see the unexpected like sharks or any pelagic marine life. Me being a shark nut at 2:30pm in the afternoon and being super excited! it all paid off where this turtle followed me for about 10 mins.

Lighting

Well the lighting was all natural surrounding lighting if you noticed the blue tinge..no balence filters ..all natural..you color spectrum changes as you go deeper

Equipment

My set up on the dive was my older Olympus c5060 wide angle camera with ikelite housing with a slave for an Ikelite strobe on and ikelite arm. my strobe wasnt snyc'd correctly always timing setting issue.

Inspiration

It was Pure curiosity on my end! I tried grabbing him.. so I chased him in the current next we pretty much became parallel to each other...snap SNAP.. there you have it

Editing

No processing

In my camera bag

I'm so random when it comes to gear i'm always rotating camera each day. so there really no definitive answer hahaha

Feedback

My Advice is to get a simple waterproof disposable camera start snorkling ..work with shallow reefs. try to frame in shapes on the reef or small animals..but if you are afraid of water or ocean . I don't want you to panic.so don't take this risk But For those who are divers practice your peak bouyancy skills for being neutral. This is the first step because there isn't a tripod underwater for stability....2nd step is to take the diver specialty course for photography. this well help you get ya feet wet (litterally).
