Sooty terns, sometimes called wideawake terns, at Mars Bay, Ascension Island. The colony here numbers in the tens, or perhaps hundreds, of thousands. Walking through and near them is an incredible experience. However, before people arrived and introduced cats. rats, goats and mynah birds the numbers would have been in the millions.
