Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture at the English School of Falconry in Bedford UK. They have a lovely collection of wild birds and I booked a shoot with them. This shot was perfect because the owl was looking at some prey, ie me!

Time

This was probably midafternoon.

Lighting

Natural lighting, which is the nest light!

Equipment

Leicavluxtyp114, no tripod, hand held steadying myself on the tree.

Inspiration

I LOVE animals and wanted to simply spend the afternoon in a personal enjoyment activity. I wasn't sure what to expect and whether the animals would cooperate but this little guy was the perfect candidate. He was simply being himself and I managed to capture a moment in time in his little life.

Editing

I enhanced the contrast slightly, sharpened and played around with the brightness. That's about it.

In my camera bag

Usually just my camera, spare batteries and LOADS of SD cards. I've been in both positions where I had no spare batteries or SD cards, complete nightmare! Oh and lens cleaner! You never know what's going to happen!

Feedback

Patience! It's preached to the utmost but when dealing with animals you really need to be on the ball all the time, be quick and be patient. The perfect shot only lasts for seconds! It's definitely handy if you know how to work manually because it gives you more options.
