This photo was taken in the south Florida town of Deerfield Beach.Time
There had been a storm in the predawn hours but I decided to go ahead and take a chance on getting a sunrise shot. I was rewarded with the sunrise peeking behind the thunderclouds, all reflecting in the pools of sea water. It was the best morning I can remember.Lighting
The natural early morning light was perfect to capture the shadows and highlights withought getting blown out.Equipment
I only used an iPhone6 for this photo.Inspiration
We live very close to the beach in South Florida, so it’s easy for me to get there for sunrise photos. This particular morning, we drove a little further north to Deerfield to get a different perspective. But I was blown away when I saw this sky reflecting on this beach after the storm. I couldn’t get enough photos that morning.Editing
I used Filterstorm on my iPad for some minor tweaks. In my camera bag
I always carry my iPhone. But I also now use a Nikon d5300, wide angle lens, zoom lense, and a tripod.Feedback
For sunrise photos you obviously have to get up early. Have everything packed and ready to go the night before. I have an app on my phone, Magic Hour, which alerts me of when the sunrise magic hour will begin, when the sun will rise, and end. You have about 60 minutes to shoot quite a few photos from different angles, various shutter speeds, shoot low, shoot close, shoot the obvious as well the the small treasures. Don’t be discouraged if it’s not a beautiful sunrise, even a stormy day can be dramatically beautiful.
