I took this photo way up north in Minnesota on a lake called “Cass Lake” which is famously known for having an island with a lake inside.. which is pretty crazy! A lake, with an island, with a lake inside of that island.. insane!Time
It was probably around 12 p.m. when this photo was taken.Lighting
This rarely happens (at least to me) but this photo turned out exactly how it looked in real life! I couldn’t see anything on my phone but when I pulled out my camera I was amazed at how it compared to what I was actually seeing!Equipment
It was taken on my old Canon Rebel T5i with the kit lens (I can’t remember what the kit lens was, probably a 15-50mm) and I actually forgot my tripod at home and had to set my camera propped up on the edge of a dock!Inspiration
I’ve always been a huge fan of night photography and being able to see such an insane phenomenon like the northern lights was an absolute dream come true!Editing
I did up the brightness and noise reduction but at the time I wasn’t very familiar with post editing and tried not to mess it up!In my camera bag
Back then it was just my Canon t5i with the kit lens, a 50mm and a 75-200mm. But now I use the Sony A6500 with a 16mm f1.4, a 15-50mm kit lens, and a 18-105 G lens which is my go to lens!Feedback
Be patient, capturing something like the northern lights is hard to come by especially if you don’t live waaayyyyyyy up north! Always keep trying and make sure to be patient with yourself. Everyone starts off as a beginner.
