Early morning light bathes the thick moat wall that surrounds the 14th century ruined Scotney Castle near Lamberhurst in the Kent countryside, England. This picturesque medieval ruin is owned by the English National Trust and is the focal point of the surrounding gardens. Early English records dating from 1137 give the owner of the estate as Lambert de Scoteni. A Mr Roger Ashburnham is credited with building the castle which dates from about 1378-80.
