Suvarnagram, a thousand years old ancient urban settlement, was one of the capitals & river ports of East Bengal. From the historical point of view, the present Sonargaon was the ancient Suvarnagram local Hindu king Danujmadhob Doshoroth Dev established his capital in this Suvarnagram in the 13th century A. D. Sonargaon Was one of the capitals & administrative hub of independent Bengal Sultanate till 1610 after it came under Mughals occupation.
Panam Nagar lies 30 miles southeast of capital Dhaka. The rich Hindu traders laid the foundation of Panam Nagar in the early years of the 19th century. It consists 52 buildings standing on both sides of a road that stretches from east to south & measures 600 meters in length & 5 meters in width. Most of the building are rectangular, north south stretched up & one to three storied. As for the architectural design of these building, European artistic skills have been blended with those of the Mughals. Moreover, the local architects applied their own artistic skills in building these structures.
Among the other historically important structures nearby Panam Nagar Bara Sardarbari, Choto Sardarbari, Panam Bridge, Gwaldi Mosque, Math, Podderbari, Takshal (Mint), the graveyard of Gias Uddin Azam Shah etc. are worth mentioning.
