This is a photo of the Bell Church, Taoist temple in my home city. Ancient China believed in the five elements of nature: water (black), fire (red), wood (blue-green), metal (white) and earth (yellow).
The Taoistic thought of the Five Elements describe the existence of interaction between the yin and yang (black and white). Red is a dominant color for it stands for long life, dynamic, and good luck. Red can be seen as the dominant color during Chinese New Year.
