Our family was so blessed to be able to adopt our son, Tucker. He has been with us since he was only 12 hours old. being of Mexican and Honduran descent, this picture remains my all time favorite of our son because although he was born in Virginia, was legally adopted by our family, and this picture was taken in a beautiful field near our home, the picture represents a life he will never know, a family he will never hold, and the struggle of his race ~ for the Pursuit of Happiness and the American Dream.
~ The photograph was printed in black and white for a reason. "Americans" rarely see the GRAY of illegal immigration ~ only the brutal BLACK and WHITE. They don't see the faces or hear the stories or try to understand why.
~ The vacant look in my boy's eyes ~ as if he's watching for someone who will never come, looking for something he'll never find.
~ The beautiful flowers that were growing by his side ~ symbolic of a beautiful life on "this side of the fence."
~ The fencing with barbed wire at the top ~ all symbolic to me of a child forever looking to his past to find his future.
I don't think I've ever looked at this photograph without feeling tears swell within my eyes.
Thank you for the opportunity to submit my son's life story in a single photograph. :)
