Charak Puja also known to us as Nil Puja is observed on the last day of the week-long Gajan festival by the Bengalis. It is observed on the last day of Chaitra, which is the last month of the Bengali calendar.
The preparation for the festival starts a month prior to the celebration. Youths dress up as Lord Shiva and Parvathi, goes from house to house and perform the dance (a.k.a Shiv-Gourir Naach) to collect money from the families for the festival.
