The more i look the more impressive. If i had a slight question it would be if those rocks in the foreground add or subtract from the effectiveness of the image.I know you could not crop them out without loosing the image.

Thanks Bill. I appreciate your comments. i was just reworking this today and took them down a little darker so they aren't so prominent

Behind The Lens

Location

CapeTown, South Africa. This is the view of table mountain from the lions head

Time

At dusk, with the sun setting to the west while the moon rose in the east

Lighting

This was on the night of the full moon, where the moonlight is at its strongest

Equipment

Sony Rx1 with fixed 35mm f2 lens. I took a series of pictures with the camera in portrait orientation and stitched them together

Inspiration

There is a ritual in CapeTown to climb the lions head at full moon. Thousands are on the path, aiming to reach the top to see the sunset as the moon rises

Editing

First I stitched the panoramas and created a full tonal starting point. In photoshop I blend the color channels to create luminosity layers, boost color with a curve in LAB, before some final tweaking in lightroom

In my camera bag

On a trip like this, the RX1 is all I need. It is simply the best you can get optically and leaves me to focus on the image. A tripod might have been a good idea though

Feedback

With this image it is really just about being there, and being ready when the conditions are right
