Behind The Lens

Location
We took this photo in the middle of High Street in a UK town. It has just stopped poring down and we quickly ran outside hoping to catch the beautiful reflections shop lights created on the wet pavement
Time
It was around 3pm but days in February are very shorts and heavy rain did not help. It was really getting dark at his point.
Lighting
We shot wide open to allow as much light in as possible and for shallow depth of field. We used a large reflector.
Equipment
This was shot with 50mm 1.8 at 2.2. No flash was used to create this shot as we were going for soft, sweet colours.
Inspiration
We planned a completely different shoot with Gracie. We were thinking of pastel colours and the sun shining. Heavy rain came as a surprise and has slowed us down a lot. We only had a very limited time to shoot and when we saw the rich coloured lights reflecting on the wet pavement we jumped at the opportunity.
Editing
Due to the weather conditions and our decision not to use flash the photo needed some post processing. It was brightened a little in Photoshop and depth of field was enhanced. We did not have a suitable lens on us and had to shoot is 15min time slot. So we made the best use of what we had - the nifty fifty.
In my camera bag
Both me and my sister just love prime lenses. We only own nikorr nifty fifty but would love to buy Sigma art 85mm 1.4 for our fine art portraiture. As we shoot weddings we also have 24-70mm 2.8 and rent 70-200 2.8m. We love natural light so a 75mm reflector is also a must.
Feedback
Jump at the opportunity! If you see something you love shoot! The key is not to overthink but make the best use of what you have in your camera bag.
