This is a American Bald Eagle. The eagle carrying telemetry unit #35959 (nicknamed "ACE" because he was caught right outside the Army Corps of Engineers-Mississippi River Project Office) is part of a Midwest Bald Eagle Telemetry Study being conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, West Virginia University, and U.S. Geological Survey.
We captured this bird right below Lock and Dam 14 in Le Claire IA. in January 2016. We estimate it to be a 7 year old male (6 years old at time of capture). This bird summered up in Ontario, Canada, and appears to be a Quad Cities local wintering bird, as he's returned to the exact same location he was captured.
