Location
This photo was taken in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the Student Union on the University of Northern Iowa's campus.Time
It was during a concert, so I am estimating between 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM CSTLighting
Since this was taken during a concert, there is no consistent lighting. I was getting bright white lighting from the stage lighting and then lighting from the crowd's cell phones. Really, these moments are rare to get a photo that is not overexposed that can be recovered.Equipment
I had my Nikon D3400 and nothing else. Concerts do not allow you to use flash or a tripod.Inspiration
I think this was just one of those moments, when you see it, you know its the perfect shot. Concerts are hard to photograph, the musicians are constantly moving and the lighting is inconsistent and harsh - thee is also a lot of color lights too.Editing
I had to correct the exposure and then I turned the photo into black and white. In my camera bag
For a concert, I usually carry everything that I can. I normally stick with my 18-55mm and then my telephoto lens. While in the pit (the place between the barrier and the stage) I only use my 18-55mm and then once I move to the back of the crowd, I will use my telephoto lens. If I am allowed (which is rarely) I have a diffuser for my flash. Other than that, I keep the basic with my in my bag, such as chapstick, tissues, a mirror, sharpies, cough drops, etc. You will never know what you might need.Feedback
Like I have said before, concert photography is tough. It also takes practice. My advice would to just keep on trying and find your own style. I like photos of small details, like a close up of the guitarist playing a chord. I also like photos of the crowd from the musicians point of view.
