This photo was taken in Cambridge in a side street by the market square. Was the first time I'd been to Cambridge and had a little bit of time spare to take some photo's so made sure I did. At the time I was doing a photo a day challenge as well so worked out nicely.Time
This would have been taken late afternoon on a cold day around February time I believe. The sun was out that day but everyone still had their coats on. Typical British day when it's not pouring with rain.Lighting
I guess the interesting thing about the lighting in this shot was that the sun couldn't really get into the street for whatever reason. So there was a nice blue sky and sun above but the street was just drenched in shadow. That harsh mid to late day sun kind of worked for this shot because of that.Equipment
The photo was taken on an IphoneSE using Hipstamatic to edit in post.Inspiration
Was one of them shots where I was wandering around and when I looked down this street and saw the chimneys at the end I just had to take the shot. I loved the dark shadows in the street and the couple walking down looked cool just from my eyes so knew they'd add to a photo.Editing
As mentioned I used Hipstamatic. Lens: Jane, Film: BlankoBL4 with a Dreampop flash. In my camera bag
That's changed from last time I wrote this out. My main camera is still my Canon 700d and now have a 1.4 50m lens that's always with it although I use the 28mm a lot too as that's around 35 with the crop sensor. My backup camera has however now changed to a Huawei P20 Pro phone rather than my canon 500d to make sure that I always have a camera on me.Feedback
I guess my only advice from the point of this photo is that that harsh mid day - early afternoon lighting doesn't have to be an enemy. It can create great lighting too, just probably in different areas.
