Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my bedroom/studio/creative business HQ, LOL!

Time

It was early afternoon and I made the most of the natural light coming from the large window! I love flowers, I picked these from the back garden. I was doing some mundane paperwork for my business and started to feel restless, I realised it was time to have a break and do something creative. I try to take at least a photo once a day, even when I am stuck indoors because of this silly virus. I don't specialise in still life, but I like to try new things and experiment. It is in my nature to overcomplicate everything, arranging flowers and then take a photo of it is a great exercise to get to the essence of things, like a 10 minutes meditation. I am pretty happy with this photo, also because of the natural patterns created by the petals and stems.

Lighting

I wanted to create some gradual light effect, a bit of contrast, but not much because I wanted to enhance the delicate petals and the brightness of the stems.

Equipment

Lumix DC-FZ82EB-K Super Zoom, hand held, natural light.

Inspiration

I know it sounds like a worn out cliche', but the simple truth is that I love flowers: I can lose track of time when I observe the natural architectural created by the layers of petals, and on a less tangible I am always in awe when I observe the simple strength of small bunch of blooms, a few flowers may be fragile, but are also stunning, strong and make life more beautiful, like most humans.

Editing

Only minor sharpening.

In my camera bag

My Lumix and android phone.

Feedback

Experiment, observe light, where it comes from, how you can use it, a large sheet of white cardboard can be used as a light diffuser.
