On an early-morning drive about before going to work, I had the good fortune to see a herd of Mountain Goats down by the water. This was near Quake Lake, a few miles outside of West Yellowstone, Montana. No one could believe it!!! I was told it is a rare site, but as it was late Summer, their water source (found in small indentions among the rocks, etc.) was probably dried up so they were forced to seek water elsewhere. Whatever the reason, this was the only time in my many, many drives over the years along that highway that I saw any goats.
