Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken outside of Caldwell, Idaho. Taking photos of lightning was a fairly new experience for me nearly 6 years ago but I saw an opportunity to learn and this is what happened!

Time

This photo was a spur of the moment shot. I believe it was around midnight on my way home from work.

Lighting

Lightning has been one of my favorites to shoot after this experience! It’s hard to catch when you don’t have all the best gear but if you play around with the settings a bit you can capture some pretty awesome moments!

Equipment

I didn’t have all the best gear at this time nor do I now but this photo was taken with a Nikon D7100 with Nikon 18-105mm sitting on a Manfroto tripod.

Inspiration

I’ve always been fascinated with lightning and weather and when I had this opportunity present itself I took it!

Editing

Only post-processing done on this photo was the cropping and a little with the shadows and vibrancy of the photo.

In my camera bag

Currently I have a Nikon D90 as my D7100 was ruined in a move and then I have a 50mm f1.8 and a 80-400mm

Feedback

If you don’t have all the equipment that people say you need to capture lightning just take your time and mess with the settings and take lots of shots to get it correct! It’s a little difficult but definitely doable! Anything you put your mind to you can accomplish as long as you don’t quit!!
