This steel tower was once part of a Michigan DOT “Welcome Center” on Interstate 75 near Monroe Michigan. The welcome center was demolished in 2005, but the tower was saved and moved to St. Ignace, Michigan. The lighthouse is situated at the end of the Wawatam pier at the southern entrance to Moran Bay, Lake Huron. Wawatam Lighthouse's beacon was first lit on August 20, 2006. Visible for more than 13 miles out over Lake Huron, it is now an official aid-to-navigation.
