I'm a senior living on pension so once in a while I catsit for a neighbour in Roberts Creek British Columbia. I was letting Smokey out and saw the sky, grabbed my camera and took the shot before it was gone. That was in my early days so I didn't have a clue about filters, settings or special effects so this shot was just me, my camera and what Mother Nature provided!Time
It was probably around 5:30 am, Smokey the cat has a pretty regular schedule for waking me to go out....I need a cat door!!Lighting
I find early morning and dusk are my sweet spots, I've never used artificial lighting...can't afford it and I'm obviously not a professional!Equipment
I've had several camera over the years, I'd have to look in the properties to see which camera I took this shot with but it was a spur of the moment, grab your camera opportunity...might have been my Olympus or my Nikon.Inspiration
Opportunity and Mother Nature...they are pretty much my only inspirations, I take lots of wildlife shots as I live in a little cabin in the forest and they come right up on my deck for the most part.Editing
I didn't use to do anything to my photos, wasn't trained and I'm a slow learner - old school senior but I have used Lightroom and usually whatever processing program is on my computer! In my camera bag
As I said, I've had several cameras over the years, mostly bought used. Right now I'm using my Nikon D5500 with the 70-300 lens as I take lots of bird pictures...and they don't just sit there posing for you so the longer lens works for me...wish I had a 600 but that's just me dreaming haha. I also have the Nikon 18-105 and 18-55 lenses which I rarely use unless I'm going to a family function! I also carry a Lumix ZS60 for my pocket in case I see something when I wasn't really looking!Feedback
Just be in the moment, if you're just starting out simply enjoy your surroundings if you take photos of wildlife, flora and fauna, landscapes, clouds, sunrises, sunsets, water, pretty much everything is all there in front of you...use your eyes and then your lens...just don't forget to take a spare battery!!!.
