This bird was sitting on a log that was part of an old dock at Smith's Island in the middle of the Chesapeake bay. They have little fear of people and you can get close before they get up and go. I try to go there for new bird pictures every couple of years but because the island is shrinking and the humans are leaving for jobs in the cities, thy may be the only inhabitants soon.
