Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Georgia, in the city of Tbilisi. I am an amateur photographer. I like to capture moments of everyday life. And I just love street photography. I like traveling very much. Now, in this difficult time for all of us, the understanding of the importance of freedom of communication and movement is especially acute.

Time

It was one of the happiest random moments for me. My friends and I came to Georgia for the New Year holidays. We walked in the city's "April 9th Park". This is the first public garden in Tbilisi, which was opened in 1865. It was January 5, 2016, around 3 p.m., and it was quite overcast.

Lighting

Dusk was approaching, and there were few people. I wasn't hoping to photograph anything interesting anymore. After looking at this photo, I realized that this dim light emphasized the details. This would be impossible with the bright light of the sun and contrasting shadows from its light.

Equipment

This was shot on Canon EOS 5D Mark III, with an EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM lens without flash, without tripod. Shooting parameters f/6.3, 1/60, ISO 800, 85mm

Inspiration

I noticed this girl walking on a tightrope between the trees. Her arms outstretched for balance followed the shape of a tree trunk. It seemed very beautiful to me. I took a few shots and this one turned out to be the best.

Editing

I have done image processing in raw format. I made the image in Black and White, because in this case the color distracts from the mood. I think black and white more accurately reveals the plot.

In my camera bag

Currently, I take Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM or Canon EF 24-70 mm f/4L IS USM with me for walking around the city.

Feedback

My experience in street photography is more than 15 years, and I can say that you don't always need to specifically look for some stories. Try to feel what you see. Try to look at what surrounds you, as if you are in the theater or in the cinema. Try to be a spectator and a director at the same time. Try telling a story without words. Improvise, create your own street jazz and always keep your camera ready!
