I went to a wedding for a weekend over December. I call it a quick road trip as I travelled about 3 000km to the wedding and back.
I was about halfway on my way back looking for an opportunity to catch the sun as it went down. I then After half an hour of looking for the perfect shot and worrying that I might miss the opportunity, the universe gave me an opportunity I just could refuse. So I pulled over, grabbed the tri-pod and ran to catch the last bit of sun... barfoot into the field to take this picture. what you cant see in this picture is a second "windpomp" next to the one in this picture...

Location
The photo was taken just before Colesberg, about halfway the distance between Cape Town and Johannesburg. I went to George for a wedding.Time
Sunset at about 18:00Lighting
I’ve tried to keep my ISO as low as possible. Also the tripod does make a huge difference when trying to take pictures of the sunset.Equipment
This shot was taken with my Canon 550D with my 70 - 300 Sigma lens and tripodInspiration
I’ve been trying that whole weekend to take a couple of sunset photos, this was the last opportunity, and couldn’t find the right location to get the sunset. Then all of a sudden the “windpomp” was on my left hand side so I stopped. I didn’t have my shoes on and had to get closer and time was running out (as sunsets usually don’t last that long) walked / ran across these thorn patches. I struggled for at least 10 minutes to remove all the thorns from my feet.Editing
I used Lightroom for post processing and enhanced the colour soms on the photo. In my camera bag
My bean bag, my 70 - 300mm lens. Lens pen and a fully charged spare batteryFeedback
South Africa has got the most amazing sunsets. Each one is different and unique but spectacular and definitely worth it.
