Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the back roads in Fenwick, Ontario. This is where the famous "Comfort Maple" tree is located. I was taking photos of the comfort maple and then looked down this road, I stood and took this shot.

Time

This photo was taken around mid morning, there was a nice fog happening and I went out to search for a nice spot to take photos.

Lighting

The light was natural lighting, no flash was used. I liked how the fog was settling in, made this look mysterious.

Equipment

I shot this with my Nikon D3100 with my 18-55mm lens, hand held. No flash.

Inspiration

I really wanted to get a nice photo in the fog, it brings out a moody feel to the scene. My husband and I decided to go for a drive and ended up at the "Comfort Maple", which can be googled for more information. It was just a day where I focused on the dirt road leading away from the maple tree. I did not think too much of this shot until I won "Photo of the Year" last year in my camera club.

Editing

Post-processing, I tweaked the levels, brought out more color on the hedges and tall brown grass on the sides of the road. I also played with the saturation and cropped the photo.

In my camera bag

I have upgraded to the Nikon D7100 and have a couple more lenses in my bag. I always carry my 18-55mm kit lens, a 55-300mm lens and my 35mm lens. I bring extra batteries and cleaning supplies and my tripod.

Feedback

Just go out at different times, drive around in foggy moody weather and try to find places like this. I was so glad I stopped at this location because I would not have gotten this photo. I was also happy when this photo won Photo of the year in my club last year. Certainly made my day. Thank you for this honour.
