Location
This photo was taken on a trip to Dublin Zoo, I like to go there frequently to take photos and find there are lots of opportunities every time I go with something new each trip.Time
This was taken at around mid morning , The Gorilla was enjoying the morning sun with her baby in a quiet corner.Lighting
Natural light is the best way to get wildlife photographs , no disturbance from a flash , and in this case a nice gentle side light has illuminated the subjects nicely.Equipment
I use Canon cameras and Lenses , this photo was taken with the 1DX and the 100-400 mk2 L lens with a 1.4X teleconverter , it is a great combination and the Camera and Lens work well together to produce Tack sharp images.Inspiration
I love to get interesting Wildlife photos , with the subjects doing what comes naturally , the Mother and Baby were in the perfect location for the Shot on that day , and I have been back numerous times since then but have not been able to capture anything like this shot. I posted the Photograph on the Dublin Zoo Facebook page and they in turn used the photo as a publicity photo on some of their pamphlets about the Gorillas.Editing
I try to keep post processing to an absolute minimum and this photo is no exception , Basically it has just been cropped and a slight Saturation boost applied. In my camera bag
I am mostly a wildlife photographer , The 1DX is always with me and I now have a Canon R5, Lenses are all telephoto Canon L glass , With the 100-400 L mk 2, the 600mm F4 L , 70 - 200 F4 L, and a 300mm F2.8 L, I also have a couple of shorter Focal length lenses for Landscape work and some Astro photography.Feedback
Camera bodies are all similar , but the really important kit is the Lenses , I tried for years to take good wildlife photographs with standard Kit lenses , and then tried out an L lens to see if there was any difference, I was blown away , and from that time until now I have bought only L Glass for my needs , and have not been disappointed , Yes they are expensive , but you will not get the same results with other Lenses . Also , Shoot in Good Light , Know your Subject , observe their habits and you will learn when the right photograph will be presented to you . One other piece of advice is to never give up, keep going back until you get the shot you really want .
